Dan’s mom is giving David a gift card for some more Digimon Cards! I’ve been looking into cards and decks, and I must admit, I am starting to feel excited to build Digimon decks. I do realize the irony of me encouraging David to buy more cards. This is a little different. This is Digimon cards, after all, not some weird Egyptian magic nonsense. And also, it’s a gift. It’s not like he’s gonna use up my pizza money again.
This isn’t a blog about cards. It’s actually a blog about fresh and in-training Digimon.
I was looking at cards, and I saw that there is a yellow deck featuring Wizardmon. I thought, hey, maybe we should build a deck based on our mentor, Magna.
“Hey, David! How come there aren’t any yellow Petit Meramon cards? This deck would be perfect for Magna but there aren’t any of his baby firms. ” I asked the Kid as I was shopping for more cards online.
“Okay, first of all, I haven’t even gotten the gift card yet. I won’t get it until Christmas. Second, his mom only asked me what kind of gift cards I wanted. We aren’t guaranteed to get one for trading cards. Third, you’re starting to sound like i used too. ” David barely looked up from his video game. “Also, do we know for sure that Magna evolved from a Petit Meramon? I never asked what his lower forms were.”
I put down the phone. “Well, of course it is. That’s the evolution tree on the Nightmare Soldier V-Pet. The Oracles made the V-Pets. Magna is a member of the Oracles. So, obviously, that’s the line Magna had….Right?”
David paused the game and looked at me. “Okay, but like, Magna is our Oracle. He made your V-Pet. So, by that logic, shouldn’t he be evolved from a Gazimon? “
“He made mine, yes, but there is more than one Version 5 V-Pet. He didn’t make all of them.” I paused to think for a moment. “Also, Magna doesn’t have his own V-Pet. So, i guess there really is no reason to assume the Nightmare Solider V-Pet was based on him at all. Dude, why did we never ask what Magna evolved from?”
David was intrigued now, and he put the controller down. “I don’t know. I never asked my college professor what he looked like as a child either, Grizzly.”
I jumped out of my chair and headed to get the laptop. “We’re going to find out. To the Digital World!”
David picked the controller back up. “Dude, I am not going all the way to the Megalithic Mainframe to ask Magna what his lower forms were. Especially since the only reason you want to know is because you want to build yet another deck that we don’t even have the money for. “
I opened the laptop. “We are more than likely getting the money. That’s beside the point now. I want to prove that I’m right. It’s totally Petit Meramon. ”
“I never said it wasn’t. I just said we didn’t know.” David said as he turned off the video game. “But either way, I know you aren’t going to let this go. Let’s go visit Magna, I guess.”
And on to the Digital World we went!
Magna’s room looks just like a fancy library in one of those movies. An old, gothic mansion with books all over the place, chairs with oversized backs, and candles being the only means of light. The decor definitely says “nightmare soldier” if you ask me. As David greeted Magna, I plopped in a chair. Sara, who decided to tag along, noticed a book on Witchelny. Her eyes grew large and sparkled like a child on her birthday.
“Magna, your magic originates from Witchelny as well? That’s where my Ice Magic came from!” Sara asked without looking up from the tome in her lap.
“It does indeed. It is said that all Wizardmon descend from a being who immigrated to the Digital World eons ago. At least, that’s the lore of my Digital World. As you know, there are several.” Magna reached for a giant grimoire on a dusty shelf. “I personally believe that Witchelny is a Nexus World: a world that connects to several Digital Worlds. In that way, it’s the common link between your home world, Sara, and mine.”
“That’s great. Wonderful. You guys are cousins or something. That’s not why we are here. Magna! What are your baby forms? You evolved from a Petit Meramon, right?” I tried to remind everyone of the big picture here.
Magna handed a grimoire to Sara. “This is a book on Nexus Worlds. You are welcome to borrow it as well as that one on Witchelny. As you can see, i have no shortage of books to keep myself busy if you borrow. “
“Hey! Reading time is over! What was your baby form?” I know David would say I was being rude but come on. It’s a simple question.
“Grizzly, I heard you the first time. Sara’s question was simply more meaningful. She’s interested in the birthplace of the magic she studies. I get the feeling your question is much more superficial. Let me guess. You are increasingly interested in that Liberator Card Game. You were looking at Wizardmon decks. Correct?” Magna smiled coyly. “Grizzly. I have guided you for over two decades of adventures. How many times were you reverted to a Digitama and reborn as something other than a Gazimon. When you and David were taking part in the Vital Bracelet Raids, you were a different Digimon every few weeks!”
“You know what I mean. My primary form is Zurumon to Pagumon to Gazimon. “
“Well, my primary form, as you call it, is Wizardmon.“
I stared at Magna for a full minute before I spoke again. “You’re not going to tell me what you evolved from first, are you?”
Magna snorted. “My first evolution? Grizzly, you met David as a Pagumon, but how do you know that was your first form? Perhaps it is just the one you remember the clearest. Prior to being partnering with David, perhaps you were an entirely different Digimon. “
David laughed. “You know, I raised a whole bunch of Digimon before I partnered with you, Grizzly. Maybe you were one of them. My first Digimon evolved from a Koromon. Maybe your primary form is a Koromon”
I rolled my eyes. “I would remember that. I remember all the other times I was returned to a Digitamma.”
“I dunno man. I mean, you usually remember. Not every time. It depends on how well you handle the reversion process. Remember that time we traveled to Floatia? You had no idea who you were for like, a month. Come to think of it, Magna traveled there with us and reverted a few times himself while we were there. I don’t remember him being a Petit Meramon at any point during that adventure” David began to smile.
“So, Grizzly, how do you know for sure that Gazimon, is your true form?” Magna asked.
“Bruh, seriously?! I didn’t ask for a lecture. I just wanted to know what form you evolved from” I sighed.
“Well, Grizzly, the truth is, like you, I have preferred one form for so long that I consider it my true form. Just Wizardmon. Nothing before. And nothing after, for that matter.” Magna acted like he was saying something profound, but to me it sounded like an lame excuse.
“You know what? I don’t even care anymore.”
Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m still curious about what baby or even Rookie form Magna would have. i just don’t feel like having philosophical debates over reincarnation anymore.
Well, readers, what do you think Magna’s baby and Rookie forms are? Maybe we can figure it out together.
Grizzly.
