I saw David looking at the online card store, so I rushed over to see what he was buying. Know what it was? A Hyogamon, a blue Ice-Snow Digimon. A pretty decent card in Bulucomon decks. Know what the issue is? Sara told me a few days ago that she was retiring her deck.
“Hey, Kid! Why are you buying more blue cards?”
David didn’t even look up from the screen. “A bunch of guys at locals were talking about their builds. I think I wanna try this out.”
“Ummm….. Sara said she isn’t playing anymore.” I looked over towards the kitchen.
Sara came wandering out with a PB and J. “I said what, now?”
“Why is the Kid buying you cards?” I pointed a finger at the computer screen. “Didn’t you quit?”
“No I didn’t! I said I was retiring my deck and focusing on collecting.” She took a bite. “That’s not the same as never playing again.”
I threw my hands in the air. “Yes, it is! What do you think retiring means?!”
She mumbled a bit with some food still in her mouth. “Retire, as in not taking my deck super seriously or trying to be the best. I’m not going to worry about winning, and I’m not studying the meta. I’m not taking part in high end tournaments, nor am I fighting any wild Digimon in Liberator. I am going to leave all the serious, competitive battles to you. But that doesn’t mean stopping all together. David and I are still going to maintain my deck and use it for more casual battles at locals. “
I just glared at her. “That’s not retirement. Thats going from competitive to casual. That is 100% not the same thing.”
“Yes it is! You think a football player who retired can’t play with his friends ever again?” She waved her sandwich as if she was trying to dismiss the conversation.
“That’s not the same thing at all!” I growled.
“Okay, fine. I’ll come out of retirement, and then change teams. From the Liberator Meta Team to the Casual Local Team. Lots of football players retire only to come back on a different team. Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers…”
I squinted at her. “Dude, where are you getting this from? The Kid and I hate football….wait…..Dan! Of Course!”
I stormed into the kitchen. Dan was putting away the dishes. I assume he was also the one who made Sara her sandwich. I poked him in the guts.
“Stop telling Sara about football and stuff. She has been gaslighting me into believing that she wasn’t going to play the card game anymore.”
‘He’s just jealous that my deck is super popular at locals.” Sara swallowed the last bit of her meal. “And he’s all upset because they announced new Iceclad support in BT21.” She smirked.
“I am not. I didn’t even know that…wait… your deck is getting more support? It just got support in the last booster!”
“See?” Sara chuckled. “Jealous.”
This is ridiculous.
To think, some Digimon have to deal with their Tamers using multiple decks. Some guy at our locals has a full suitcase full of decks. I suppose I am lucky I only have to deal with Sara. I mean, I guess I am still going to be the main focus of all of David’s meta focused decks. So that’s something,
