Other Worlds Tour: Sara’s Digimon Adventure?!

” Hey Sara! My second MedievalDukemon still hasn’t come in the mail! I’m getting a little tired of waiting for that!  My RustTyrannomon deck isn’t complete without it.  Oh,  hey Magna!…..Wait, Magna?!”

I had just walked back into the apartment.  I snuck down to the main lobby to check the mail. David and Dan sat in their recliners, just like when I left them.  Sara, however, had pulled a kitchen chair into the living room and was sitting on the floor next to it.  Magna next to her.  I assume the nearby laptop was how he got here.

“Oh, good, we are all here! ” Magna said calmly.

“Oh good! Now, why are we all here?!”  I asked, squinting at David.  “How come no one told me Magna was coming?”

David sighed.  “I DID!  I said was going back to my parents’ house to get my Adventure Digivice out of storage.  Manga and Sara needed it for the enchantment Magna is going to teach her.”

“Yea, and I said Sara ain’t using my Digivice for no hocus pocus malarky.”  I said, annoyed.

David handed the Digivice to Sara.  It was old, and the screen was scuffed up, but the blue hue was unmistakable.  It was the classic version of the Digivice, made famous by Tai Kamiya and his team all the way back in 1999.   Like with all of our other Digivices, we only use it when we travel to that Digital World. David and I haven’t used it since….well….I couldn’t remember, exactly.

“Okay, fine.  Clearly my opinion doesn’t matter.”  I folded my arms.

Sara looked at David, and then back at me.  “I thought it was okay.  David said…”

I could tell she was upset.  To be completely honest, I’m not exactly sure if David asked me or not.  I do remember him mentioning it, but I also remember that when he did, I was on level 8 of Donkey Madness. What was I supposed to do?  Stop playing?

“Don’t go all puppy dog eyes on me.  Just…just don’t break it.”  I grumbled.

“In order for me to learn how to make this Digivice, I had to partner with Genai.” Magna said in a way that indicated he was going into teacher mode. “He’s a wise being from that world.  Similar to me in a la lot of ways.  His version of the Digivice only functions when it’s linked to the world that it was designed in.   While honored by all and considered by many to be ‘the original’, it has unfortunately become out dated in many ways.”

“The Virtual Pet designed by you and the Oracles are similar to this Digivice.  It allows easier Digivolution and assists with the bonds between humans and Digimon.  It also allows the compression of Digimon to be stored in an artificial living space.” Sara chirped, proud of the progress she has made in her studies.   “Like all Oracle Apprentices, Magna assigned me the task of creating a Virtual Pet or Digivice.  The ability to do so is the cornerstone of all Oracle research!  And the point of all research is to improve upon the knowledge gathered by our mentors. As such, I think I developed a way to make a Digivice that functions like a Virtual Pet.  “

“One that will work in both the Adventure Universe as well as our own!  One that aids in the bonds between humans and Digimon, but can also be used to house the Digimon when need be.”  Dan smiled.  “Sara’s been working really hard on this, and she thinks she has it figured out!”

“Look, I like you and all, but I’m not sure I like the idea of you messing with my Digivice!”  I was happy her studies were going well, but I had 20 years with that thing!

Sara rolled out a long piece of paper with scribbles all over it.  “I not going to change your Digivice.  I am going to make my own.  One for me and Dan to use.  I just needed to borrow something that was anchored to the Adventure Universe to anchor mine to it as well.”

The paper started to glow in all kinds of colors.  Neon streaks poured in from the tv and laptops. Dan’s eyes sparked like he was watching fireworks.  David and I have seen Oracle Magic several times before, so the light show was nothing new to us.  I looked over to Magna, who was mumbling something under his breath.  A counter spell in case something went wrong?  A screeching noise like a 1998 dial up modem pierced the silence, and in a brilliant flash, everything was back to normal…except Sara was gone!

“It worked!” Sara cried from the thin air.

I looked down to the floor.  The paper with all the scribbles had burned away, but next to my Digivice was a second Digivice!  The LCD display of a tiny blue dragon dance across the screen of the new one.   Magna picked them up, handing the new one to Dan and the original to David.

“Well, it can house you okay, but that was only part of the assignment.  Can you get out of there?”  Magna sounded as if he didn’t actually believe what was happening.

“Yeup!”  Sara called as a beam of light shot form the Digivice, pouring her back into the living room.

Dan leapt to his feet and hugged her “You did it!”

“it would seem…” Magna curled his index finger around his mouth. “The question still remains if it will work in the alternate universe, and whether or not it actually aids in Digivoltion.  But so far, it seems as if you passed your test!  Congratulations!”

I took my Digivice back from David, and I gave Sara a hug. “Good job!  But….you still could have broken my Digivice.  This thing better still work!”

Sara’s eyes gleamed.  “You said you ‘like me and all’ before.  I heard you!”

THAT’S what she decided to focus on?

Yeesh.

I’ll let you all know how this little experiment of Sara goes.
